Problem Drinking in Northern Ireland - Belfast Telegraph Report
A Belfast Telegraph report earlier this year (2012) on research compiled on behalf of the Department Of Health has claimed that nearly one in ten people in Northern Ireland could have a problem with alcohol.
The research was based on interviews with more than 2000 people and measured interviewees response to four statements.
1. I have felt that i ought to cut down on my drinking
2. People have annoyed me by criticising my drinking
3. I have felt alarmed or guilty about my drinking
4. I have had a drink first thing in the morning to steady my nerves or get rid of a hangover.
The report suggested that if interviewees agreed with two or more of the above statementrs then it was highly likely they had a problem with alcohol.
